Module 8 Reflection Blog My Personal Balance Sheet Melissa D. Burns             In this blog I will be taking stock of my personal strengths and weakness.  In our Becoming a Resonant Leader workbook we put our strengths, potential strengths, enduring dispositions and weaknesses into a balance sheet.  It is an interesting way to look at our emotions, personality traits and other attributes.  This exercise gave me the opportunity for reflection and to consider what changes need to be made to achieve better overall balance in my life.             When considering my ideal balance, I would have my family and work life well balanced, be making enough money to comfortably support our lifestyle and still have plenty of time to put towards my personal spiritual and physical health.  Of course, my marriage would be the best it could be,...

A641.7.3.RB Appreciating Your "Real Self"

Write up a Reflection Blog integrating the module textbook and workbook content with your personal findings. Did you discover any surprises from your outputs? If so, what were they? If not, why do you think this happened? Appreciating Your Real Self Melissa D. Burns  After completing the mindfulness exercises in our  Becoming a Resonant Leader  workbook, I found that my answers were very consistent with my feelings and expectations of myself.  The exercises included taking stock in what I consider of greatest worth in my life and considering what I like and dislike about my current life (Boyatzis et al., 2008).  The exercises had me reflect on my personal medicine wheel and how I am caring for my mind, body, spirit and emotions (Boyatzis et al., 2008).  In addition, the exercises had me chart a path and consider what changes I need to make in order to achieve the balance that I want in my life (Boyatzis et al., 2008).   These...

Reflection Blog:     ICT at the Team Level Melissa D. Burns Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Using the concepts within ICT focused on the team level, reflect on why the Olympic US Women’s Soccer team won so often and the United States’ men’s basketball Dream Team did so poorly in 2000 and 2004?             The US Olympic Men’s Basketball team called the Dream Team and the US Women’s National Soccer Team have had very different experiences with team dynamics, leadership and the resulting success.  Intentional Change Theory (ICT) at the team level is just as important as it is on the individual, organizational or National level and the same rules apply.  The five major discoveries are still the ideal self, the real self, your learning agenda, experimenting with and practicing new habits, and developing and maintaining close, personal relationships (Boyatzis & McKee, 2005).   ...

Module 4 Reflection Blog Melissa D. Burns Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University Blog Assignment:  Share instances where you have experienced a tipping point at work. When you experienced the tipping point, describe how positive or negative emotional attractors played a role in it. The Study              When I think about a tipping point, the first thing I think is that point at which you tip due to too much stress, but for the purposes of this blog the tipping point being discussed is a positive one.  This idea of a positive performance tipping point results in positive consequences including success and effectiveness of leaders (Boyatzis, 2006).  What Boyatzis is referring to when he discusses a tipping point, is one of emotional intelligence and cognitive competencies which lead to a predictable increase in performance of leaders (Boyatzis, 2006).  According to the case study don...

Module 3 Reflection Blog Emotional Intelligence:  Getting Results! Melissa Burns Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University The four dimensions of El are self-awareness, self-management, social awareness, and social skills (Big Think, 2012).  How do these apply to me?  Which represent my strengths and what areas do I need to develop?  How have the El dimensions helped or hindered me in my performance and career?  Neuroscience has been a hot topic in the sports world and in the corporate world and the understanding of neuroplasticity and creating and building neuropathways.  Emotional intelligence is something that humans are constantly learning and having the ability to be flexible and to malleable to learn and adapt is key to evolving as an emotionally intelligent human being.  For a person to become more emotionally intelligent, they need to put the actions that they learn and know into action.  Understan...

Module 2 Reflection Blog: Am I a Resonant Leader MSLD641

Reflection Blog:     Am I a Resonant Leader Melissa D. Burns Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University MSLD 641              For this exercise I am going to answer the questions from the perspective of where I was in my last season of work with my airshow business before having my daughter.  I would then like to reflect on how I have changed since having my children and taking a break from work.  I would be especially interested to re-do these exercises after being back to work for a year to see how I have changed as a leader since becoming a parent and having time to reflect in my 4-year break from performing.   Am I inspirational? How do I inspire people? Over the years I have had a lot of people tell me that they were inspired by me to chase their dreams and passions.  This feedback has been so precious to me to let me know that I have been making an impact through my work....
