Reflect on your perceived
value of this course. Include both positive and negative aspects of your
experience. What might you have done to improve your learning experience in
this course? How might the University or your instructor provide additional support
for your learning? Were there topics covered in this course that seem
particularly relevant or irrelevant to your experiences and to what you expect
to come in future courses?
When I signed up for this course as a part of
my minor in Leadership for the MBAA at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, I wasn’t
entirely certain as to what to expect.
Most of my courses have been to do with aviation and business up until
now and this was my first leadership course.
I expected there to be a lot of reflective thought, writing and
reading.
Once I got into the course it became
apparent that critical thinking was the primary element of the course. Rather than just learning to better
understand and apply critical thinking skills, we were challenged to work on our
own individual weaknesses. It was
challenging to do a research paper that was based upon my own weaknesses and to
find a way to communicate the results of my study through my final
presentation. I enjoyed the challenge
and feel that the course gave me something to take away to apply to both life
and future course work.
I had difficulty accessing the course
in the beginning and because of this I was playing catch up through most of the
modules. I wish that I had worked out
sooner how to solve this problem so that I did not have to feel the time
compression in combination with work and life to get assignments
completed. I did my best to put the
distraction of that pressure aside and to put the time that the work deserved
into each assignment and into the reading.
The instructor was incredibly accommodating and understanding and helped
to support a positive working and learning environment for me. For this I am extremely grateful!
The instructor was very involved in
the discussions and always posted course announcements. When I had questions, he was always quick to
answer and readily available. I don’t
know that he could have done much more than he did to aid in our learning. He was one of the better instructors that I
have worked with in the online environment.
The topics discussed including
critical thinking and specifically the traits and values of a critical thinker
were very applicable to both the degree program and the class itself. I feel that these are valuable skills to any
leader that we can continue to work on throughout our education and our
life. The course materials supported the
course topics and discussions very well.
When it came time to complete my research presentation, I found that the
supporting assignments that we had completed through the previous 8 weeks were
all applicable towards my final product.
Overall
I was very satisfied with this course and am pleased that I chose leadership as
a minor for my MBAA. I feel that this degree
will support the future of my career in aviation and the business and
leadership skills learned will nicely add to my last 15 years of aviation
experience and to my Aeronautical Science, Professional Aeronautics and Management
degrees.
